These are the four great deserts of the American southwest: the Great Basin Desert to the north; the Mohave desert in the centre; the Sonoran desert to the southwest; and the Chihuahuan desert to the southeast.
Because of their different geographical locations with respect to coastlines and mountain ranges, they all have different rainfall patterns and therefore different climates and ecologies.
